FAQ

Specification Questions

What surface preparation does the spec require?

SSPC-SP6 commercial blast with a 2–4 mil profile for new or heavily corroded steel. For maintenance overcoating of sound, tightly-adhered rust, SSPC-SP3 power-tool cleaning is acceptable with a reduced-warranty note. Chloride verification below 7 µg/cm² is required in salt-exposure service.

How is coverage and film build estimated?

At 100% solids, one gallon yields 1,600 mil-sq-ft — about 27 sq ft at the 60-mil exterior spec. We provide takeoff worksheets that convert structural tonnage or surface area directly into material quantities.

How long is the outage window?

Gel is measured in seconds and tack-free in minutes, so masking and overspray control usually drive the schedule, not cure. Most equipment returns to service within 2 hours of final pass; full film properties develop over 24 hours.

Who can apply it?

Approved contractors with plural-component spray equipment and heated hose capability. We maintain a contractor network and will refer applicators in your region, or qualify your in-house crew if you own a rig.

How is the material priced?

By drum set, with project pricing on volume. Contractors and distributors receive wholesale schedules; owners typically buy through their applicator. Send square footage and exposure category for a budget number.

What service life should we model?

In atmospheric service at spec thickness, plan maintenance inspections at year 10 rather than repainting cycles at year 3–5. The membrane does not chalk-fail like thin-film systems; end of life is mechanical damage, which is spot-repairable by grinding the edge and respraying.
