Applications
Corrosion Is a Maintenance Line Item — Until It Is a Capital One
Every facility engineer knows the trajectory. Year one, a conveyor frame shows bloom at the welds. Year three, maintenance is wire-wheeling and touch-up painting on a rotating schedule that never quite catches up. Year seven, an inspector is measuring section loss and the conversation moves from paint budgets to replacement capital. NACE studies put the global cost of corrosion in the trillions, but the number that matters is yours: what does it cost to replace that structure versus sealing it while it is still sound?
FerroGuard IC intervenes at the mechanism. Atmospheric corrosion requires an electrolyte film — condensation, wash-down water, process splash — completing an electrochemical cell on the steel surface. A continuous 100%-solids polyurea membrane at 40–80 mils eliminates the electrolyte path entirely. No moisture contact, no ion transport, no oxidation. Unlike thin-film alkyds that fail at 3–5 mils of weathering, an elastomeric membrane has the reserve thickness and the tear strength to keep performing after impact, abrasion and thermal cycling.
Where It Earns Its Spec
Material handling. Conveyor frames, transfer towers and hopper exteriors — the before/after on our gallery page is a working conveyor line sealed in place over a weekend shutdown.
Structural steel. Columns, beams and mezzanine framing in humid or wash-down environments, including food-plant areas where caustic sanitation chemistry destroys conventional paint systems.
Tank and vessel exteriors. Chime areas and pedestal interfaces where trapped moisture drives crevice corrosion.
Outdoor plant assets. Pipe racks, stair stringers, platforms, equipment skids and coastal or de-icing-salt exposure zones.
Mobile equipment. Loader frames, screening plants and yard equipment that cannot be down for a week of multi-coat painting.
Surface Preparation and Application Protocol
FerroGuard IC is specified against a prep standard your contractors already know: SSPC-SP6 commercial blast where achievable, or SSPC-SP3 power-tool cleaning for maintenance overcoating of sound, tightly-rusted steel. Chloride testing is recommended in de-icing or coastal service; wash to below 7 µg/cm² before application. Profile target is 2–4 mils.
Application is plural-component spray by an approved contractor. Because the material is solvent-free, there is no flash-off period between passes and no cure-time chemistry waiting on evaporation — gel in seconds, tack-free in minutes, and return to service in hours rather than days. For a plant, that is the difference between coating inside a weekend shutdown and scheduling a production outage.
We support specifying engineers directly: section-by-section spec language, DFT schedules by exposure category, and single-source accountability on material questions. Send us the drawing and the environment; we will send back a spec you can paste into Division 09.
